Volunteering

A great way to participate in WAM events is by volunteering your time. Event days can be very hectic, but also incredibly rewarding. Event promoters and amateur athletes alike know that without volunteers, an event cannot succeed.

Volunteers are currently being recruited to encourage participants from the side of the course, hand them water and supplies as they pass by and thank them for their efforts. Only happy, bubbly, people lovers should apply! ;-)

Each volunteer will receive a WAM Events staff shirt as well as discounted entries to future WAM Events.

Why does our Executive Director feel so strongly about volunteers?

“When I participated in my first athletic event, a 100 mile bike ride in West Palm Beach for the Leukemia Society, I remember “hitting the wall”. At mile 73, when I was just about the last cyclist on the course, I found myself depleted of energy and emotionally distraught. I didn’t think I could finish. Each SAG stop I passed was closing because the faster, stronger athletes ahead of me had depleted their supply of food and water. Without knowing, one of the volunteers borrowed a car, drove to the store and caught up with me on the course. From the window of the car, she handed a banana, bottle of sports drink and a bagel to me to keep me going. The medal I received when I crossed the finish line that day, hangs in my office and is a constant reminder of what we can accomplish when people support and encourage us.”
